Reports of my Slacking are Greatly Exaggerated

Hello everyone. Like Spreee, I had intended to write a positive, upbeat message to kick off this newsletter, but the terrible events of September 11 altered that.

Let me start by saying how sad I am at the loss of so many lives, all of whom had so much ahead of them. I want to send my very sincere condolences to those who lost someone in this tragedy. However, I would also like to say something to those who took September 11 as a call to service: "Thank you."

I want to thank all those who instead of taking this as a sign that they should give in and give up, took the opportunity to do something positive. I saw people all over the world gathering up food and clothing to send to those suffering here in the US, those who, in some cases, lost not only their homes, but their loved ones. Here are people giving to help countless others, people they will never meet, just because they want to. I saw people in NYC who would never think of talking to the person next to them on the subway, holding someone they had never met, just to help them express their grief.

The work is not over, and the healing will never be totally complete, but just knowing that the concept of Service is alive and well to people who have never heard of APO, gives me such a wonderful feeling. Frank Reed Horton's vision of making Alpha Phi Omega worldwide is still alive and well. To all my Brothers out there: keep up the good work. You are making a difference.

In Leadership, Friendship, and Service,
Fuzzy
