Two Days in Summer This summer we had not 1 but 2 picnics to offer the students. Our first picnic was on June 26th at the Clarence Fahnestock State Park in Carmel, NY and our second one was on July 31st at the Million Dollar Beach in Lake George, NY.
Clarence Fahnestock Picnic:
On June 26, over 20 actives, alumni, and friends descended on Clarence Fahnestock State Park in Carmel, NY. We had a good spot in the shade right near the beach. Basic picnic foods where served such as hotdogs and hamburgers, potato and macaroni salads, some fruit and brownies for desert and soda, water and apple juice to drink. There was swimming and sand castle building throughout the day, as well as burying the occasional staff member in the sand! To conclude the picnic, we all took a hike around another pond at the park. The picnic was also attended by special guests David O’Leary (National Scouting & Youth Services Director) and Lisa Covi, who is on the National Board of Directors -- the first board member to attend one of our picnics in probably over ten years! (Probably because we always held it the same weekend as the summer board meeting ;)
Million Dollar Beach Picnic:
About a month later (and much further north!), even more actives and alumni made their way up to the Million Dollar Beach, on the shores of beautiful Lake George. Again, we had the usual picnic foods and drinks. I purchased some cakes for desert. We were not as close to the beach with this picnic but it was a short stroll across a parking lot. We had a lot of shade and my tarp provide some protection against the rain while everyone who wanted to, played or learned how to play Texas Hold’em Poker. When the picnic was done a small group of brothers went into the village of Lake George and participated in touristy things. We had brothers from as far away as Rochester living locally in Lake George and Glens Falls in attendance of this picnic.
I would like to thank everyone who came to one or both of our awesome picnics this summer. I look forward to seeing all of you and even more Brothers again next summer! :)
